PLEASE FILL IN THIS FORM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
Each week you are assumed to (1) Read the text, including the pages that are linked to other sites, for each week, describing the methods from this site and (2) do the assignments. Here is a list of people who passed the assignments first assignments and Here the last assignments.
For each week there are some recommended scientific articles that explains the methods in more detail than in the text at this site. These articles are not necessary to read, but are there for the interested student. The text that you have to read is avilable in the text session.
It is expected that you will spend about 1 day (8 hours) to complete one week of work. I guess the best is to spend the first 6 hours reading and the next 1 h 55 to do the assignments. The last 5 minutes hould be needed to fill in the answers.
It is assumed that you have a basic knowledge about protein structures, if that is not the case please read for instance this introduction or any basic biochemistry textbook.
You will also need a program to look at proteins on your computer, I recommend Rasmol which is available for most computers, however there are many other programs available too. It is a good idea to spend an hour or two to familiarize you with rasmol if you have not used it before.
You will also need to print/view postscript files. Tools for this can be found at here.
If you have questions, please ask Al Necal (the two first weeks)
or Erik Nordling.
The papers and method selected for this course are my choices. I have picked methods that I consider technically important, however there are many other methods available that might be as good.
Further there is not a strict agreement between the methods presented in the text session and the methods at the assignment, this depends on that all methods are not available in an easy to use format.
If you want to know more about a method, read the suggested papers and/or search for more information on the net. If you send me a mail I will do my best to help you.
